Can I configure a Yamaha CDR/CRW drive as the only functioning
CD-ROM on a Macintosh?
Yamaha CDR/CRW's drives are not plug and play devices when used
with a Macintosh computer. Therefore, to configure Yamaha CDR/CRW
drives to function as a CD Reader AND the only CD device on the
system, the 'patch to update Toast 3.5.x to 3.5.7' file must be
downloaded from Roxio and installed, prior to installing the Toast
mastering software.
NOTE: Even if the Yamaha drive came equipped with Toast
4.x, the 'patch to update Toast 3.5.x to 3.5.7' will still need
to be downloaded. The Toast CD Reader extension can not be acquired
from any other location. During the installation of Toast 4.x,
the 'patch to update Toast 3.5.x to 3.5.7' will be overwritten.
The 'patch to update Toast 3.5.x to 3.5.7' extension is only needed
to add read functionality to the Yamaha drive.
TIP: CharisMac's 'ANUBIS' driver utilities and InTechUSA's
'CD-ROM SpeedTools' will also support a Yamaha CDR/CRW as a reader
with the Macintosh Operating System.
Steps:
Prior to installing Toast Software:
1) Download the 'patch to update Toast 3.5.x to 3.5.7' file (English
version) from Roxio's website.
2) Unstuff the downloaded file.
3) Open the folder and place the 'Place in Extensions folder'
contents into the Mac's 'Extension' folder in the 'System' directory.
4) With the Yamaha CDR/CRW powered ON, reboot the system.
5) Install the Toast mastering software.
6) Reboot the computer.
TIP: If the version of Toast installed on the Mac is not
3.5.7, run the 'Roxio Toast 3.5.x Updater' program that came included
in the downloaded files from Roxio to upgrade to the latest version.
