My computer speakers have developed static. Why?

Make sure that the connections are firm and secure between the speaker system and your computer. Wiggle them gently and see if the static goes away. It may just be a loose or dirty connection. If the static occurs on various sources, and at all volume levels, it is possible that you may have a defective amplifier or a defective speaker driver. Or there could be a line level signal problem coming from your sound card. The easiest way to tell, is to plug another sound source such as a portable CD player, or a laptop computer into your speaker system. If the sound is still distorted, then the problem is with the speaker system. Contact your retailer or Yamaha Customer Support for further assistance. If the sound is now clear, then the problem may be with the sound card in your computer. Contact either the maker of your computer or sound card for assistance with their products.
